Plasmodium falciparum can cause severe malaria

Plasmodia are microscopic parasites that cause malaria. Four species of the parasite can produce the disease in humans: Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale and Plasmodium malariae.

The plasmodium is transmitted by female anopheles bites

Only the female of Anopheles transmits the Plasmodium falciparum, by biting humans.
