Out of 192 countries the kingdom of Lesotho ranks 138th for life expectancy, 146th for infant mortality, 137th for GNP, 152nd for daily calorie intake, 132nd for literacy, 114th for the percentage of children in full-time education (source: Atlas Encyclopédique Mondial, Nathan Ed., Paris 1996, pp.562-563).

Lesotho is a country of volcanic plateaux, an enclave totally surrounded by South Africa. There are 4 peaks at more than 3,000m ( Mount Thabana Ntlenyama peaks at 3,482 m) and this country is considered a real water tower for South Africa.

The dry season is from June to August when temperatures are around 0°C. It is therefore not rare to see the mountains covered with snow.

There is no malaria in the Kingdom of Lesotho.
